My name is Foekje Buijs and ever since I was young I have had a passion for art. My education as a civil engineer in risk-based design of hydraulic structures inspires my art. It brings in a sense of proportion and perspective in my drawings and paintings, but for example also the physics of water and waves. Knowledge of structures allowed me to develop my own approach to building art from willow branches. Working closely with stone and other materials for sculpturing gives a natural feel for material strength and weakness. The stone inspires the figure that I want to make. The ultimate magic is to find the vein structure inside the stone alligned with my planned shape on the basis of intuition. In a similar way do I try to find the right intuitive impression in paintings and other sculptures.
